Tap is rhythm, and rhythm is tap. Its origins are many and varied: Americans claim it grew from the African jazz age, the Irish stake their claim through jigs and step dancing, and the English point to northern clog dancers. Whichever you believe, tap is as popular today as it was in the heyday of the great Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly musicals.
Classes at the academy build timing, clarity of sound and performance quality, from first shuffles through to fast, complex rhythms. It is a gentle, rhythmical and hugely enjoyable way to keep fit, which is why our tap classes run for children and adults alike.
What to expect

- Adult beginners and improvers classes on Tuesday evenings
Examination pathways at the academy include IDTA, RAD, ISTD, NATD, Acrobatic Arts, BBO, TDSC. UCAS points are awarded for vocational grades. Read about dance exams.
